Ings sharp as ever as same tactic works

Saints fans will remember Danny Ings’ goal against Spurs at St Mary’s last season. His flick over Toby Alderweireld and the volleyed finish were both memorable, but can you remember the build-up?

To recall how it happened, you need to look no further than the striker’s goal on Sunday.

Both came from a lofted, direct pass over the two Spurs centre-backs and Ings himself using his superb awareness and movement to create the opportunity.

He darts between the two defenders who are on their heels, finds a burst of deceptive pace and finishes expertly to fully emphasize just how lucky Saints are to have him in their side.

Ings also added a second goal to his season’s tally with a late penalty consolation and will surely be crucial if Saints are to improve in the coming weeks.
