Forwards and Substitutes

Che Adams – 5.5

There is no doubting the effort that Adams put in and at times, he held the ball up beautifully, using his considerable power and strength to bring others into the game. Ultimately though, strikers get judged on the goals column and Adams was guilty of missing a couple of guilt edged opportunities.

The irony was that Adams was hitting his shots cleanly but was unable to direct his efforts sufficiently far away from the impressive Lloris. Unfortunately he still lacks the clinical and ruthless edge, as demonstrated by Son at the other end.

Danny Ings – 8

He didn’t get many chances in the game but those he did, were dispatched with calm assuredness. His first came after a well judged ball from the right, which he struck early across goal past Lloris, deceiving the Frenchman.

The second came in the form of a penalty after the unfortunate Doherty was penalised for handball. Despite the scoreline, Ings slotted the ball down the middle of the goal to claim some scant consolation for the sorry Saints. Once again, his work rate was outstanding in a losing cause, with a noticeable willingness to muck in at the back too.

Subs

Will Smallbone – 3

Finally played in his favoured central role, the youngster did little to excite with some loose passing. Tough game to be introduced into but for a player so highly rated by the coaching staff, he will need to seize one of these opportunities soon.

Nathan Tella – 6

Brought on with the game already decided but Tella showed some nice touches and a decent turn of pace during his 20 minute cameo. The fact he was fouled more than once showed that Spurs were cautious of his threat on the counter.

Shane Long – NA

Barely had time to affect the game but usual willing to run channels.
