Forwards and Substitutes

Danny Ings – 8

Another day, another goal from the Southampton maestro. His rating reflects not just his well taken goal in a game with few opportunities but also his work-rate and industry throughout.

Everyone is running out of superlatives to describe Ings but if he can maintain his run of form, there is no reason why he can’t propel Saints up the table in what promises to be an unusual season.

Che Adams – 7

The goals will come for the young forward but his intelligent running shows the potential is there. His cutback to Ings was brilliant after enticing the keeper off his line, demonstrating an awareness and maturity.

Although still guilty of snatching at chances, Adams is a raw player and it is becoming evident that he and Ings are developing a strong partnership.

Substitutes

Nathan Tella – 6

Good running from the academy player during his brief cameo, unfortunate that Armstrong did not release him on a couple of occasions.

Michael Obafemi – 5

As with Tella, it was only a cameo for the Irish forward. Frustratingly, there are times where one senses Obafemi could work hard to press in the vein that Adams, Ings and Long do.
