Southampton earned a 2-0 victory over recently promoted West Bromwich Albion courtesy of Moussa Djenepo and Oriol Romeu strikes.

Ralph Hasenhuttl highlighted the need for his team to be clinical and thus was unlikely 100% pleased with the first half.  Che Adams could have scored twice, Danny Ings’ glancing header was saved, and Southampton did more than enough to be up just 1-0.  Moussa Djenepo’s goal was taken with real quality, but it left a testy second period to be played.

Oriol Romeu was the man to break the deadlock with his first goal in 50 Premier League games.  The volley was no cheapie either, as he ran in from 25 yards before connecting with Stuart Armstrong’s chipped cross.

West Brom did threaten from a few set pieces, but Southampton remained in control for the majority of the performance.  Nathan Redmond reappeared from his ankle injury and Shane Long closed out the game per usual.  The 2-0 win over the Baggies is a big boost for Saints headed into the International Break.  Now the bulk of attention turns to the potential new faces arriving at St. Mary’s ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline.

Southampton have Chelsea in two weeks and red hot Everton to follow, so it was an important three points in the bag.  It was hard to find a weak performance in the Saints side, so here are the positive player ratings from the win over West Brom!
