Filling out the Hojbjerg spot was one of the bigger spots Southampton needed to fill this transfer window and they asked Lille about Xeka.

According to a report that has come out, that you can read here, Southampton showed interest in Lille midfielder Xeka.

The club wanted around 10 million euros for the midfielder and obviously, a deal never got down between the two clubs because the Saints signed Diallo instead. The business has been down and the transfer window is now closed and the teams have to live with what they have until January.

I think Southampton had a fantastic transfer window even if they did miss out on a few players they may have wanted. The most important thing they got done was getting rid of the deadwood players who were just collecting a paycheck. Most of these players will not be missed (I will miss Boufal) and now we can move on from them.

Next. Ings will make first start for England against Wales this evening. dark

On the other side of things, the players that were brought in are fantastic. You have Salisu, Walker-Peters, Diallo, and Theo Walcott. All players I believe can have an impact and will make the team better.

I would have to think we see Salisu get his debut after the international break and he is the player I am most excited to see. If the defense can continue to keep clean sheets and limit opposing teams to fewer goals the Saints could find themselves finishing easily in the top half of the table this season
