The international break is nearly over and when the Saints return they will face Chelsea and Everton in back-to-back matches.

Southampton have started the season out with two straight losses than two straight wins. They started to look more like the team we saw at the end of the last season but now the next two matches will really let us know where they are at as a team.

Chelsea, are an insanely talented group but are still trying to figure out their best XI and formation. They could easily score 3+ goals in any given match but are susceptible to a bad performance. Last year, the Saints won one and lost one to the Blues and I think they would take that again this year.

What I am looking for in this match is the show competitiveness and keep it close. I do not expect a win (although that would be amazing) but if they keep the match close and give Chelsea some issues I would be pleased. You should never be happy with a loss but a 2-1 match could be encouraging for the squad.

As for Everton, they are currently sitting atop the table and have one of the best attacks in the Premier League currently. They are unbeaten on the season and we will have to see if they can keep up that form after the break.

Next. Saints help to vote out “Project Big Picture” unanimously. dark

I would love to see the Southampton defense hold them to no more than a single goal. It is a big ask, but Ralph will have the team ready and if they are up to the fight they can keep any team from scoring.

Hopefully, we will see Salisu in the starting lineup in these two matches and show us what he is made of. If Southampton can get a result or even hold the two teams to a combined 3 goals or less I think that shows this team is moving in the right direction and will win a lot of matches this season.
