Strikers and Substitutes
Danny Ings, Striker – 7
Can’t get the ball to your best player and it’s going to be a rough go of it, but Southampton were able to just before the first half. Che slipped his strike partner in and there was never a doubt it would be 1-2. Flashed his second chance just wide of the post in a sea of blue shirts. If fit, will score, and that is so refreshing for Southampton.
Che Adams, Striker – 8
First to test the Chelsea keeper and the same old story, he should have scored. Great assist on Danny Ings’ goal to completely change the game going into the half. Blasted his goal into the top of the net after a Chelsea calamity of errors. Squeaked another shot wide of the far post after a good break from Walcott. Hold up play and strength was evident throughout.
Nathan Tella, Substitute Attacking-Mid – 8
Took Redmond’s place on the left wing for 15 minutes as Saints chased a goal. Showed his excellent pace in pressure and looks in many ways like a younger Nathan Redmond. Almost picked out Ings late with an incredible touch pass.
Shane Long, Substitute Striker – N/A
Given 5 minutes plus to torment the Chelsea back line. One unbelievable bit of hold up play per usual.
Ibrahima Diallo, Centre-Mid – N/A
Made his Southampton debut in the final five minutes suggesting he may make his first Saints start sooner than later.
