Southampton are riding a three-match unbeaten streak and have really been playing decent football since dropping the first two matches of the season.

With 7 points taken from their last three matches, Southampton are starting to live up to the expectations the fans had of them this season. They currently sit 12th on the table and that is thanks to good team play and smart tactics from the manager.

Now is a good time to take a look at the players who have really stepped up in the first five matches of the season and have been a big part of where we find ourselves today.

Number 5

Oriol Romeu

It is likely he will eventually be replaced by Ibrahima Diallo but in the meantime, he knows he is the stater in the middle alongside James Ward-Prowse and has played really decent football especially over the last few matches.

He is averaging 3.6 tackles per match which leads the team currently and has added 1.4 interceptions per match to go along with it. And although he does not score often he has added one very memorable goal to his tally this season.

Romeu has always endeared himself to the fans for his worth ethic and hardnose play. That has not changed this season and he has held down the midfield just fine as we wait for Diallo to be ready to get regular playing time.
