Southampton welcome Everton to St. Mary’s on Sunday in a battle between two sides that have been evenly matched over the past few seasons.

Southampton have turned around a dismal start to their campaign and have taken results in their three last matches while Everton currently sit atop the table and have yet to taste defeat.

This should be an entertaining matchup for what it is worth. Both teams have shown they can score and do not have the best defenses in the world so we could see a high-scoring match.

The two sides have some injury concerns so they may not be at full health but let us take a look at how both teams can win this match.

How Southampton Will Win

The Saints will need to play much like they did against Chelsea just concede less goals (I know, shocker). They played well in possession and got a number of chances to score and took them well.

They will likely not keep a clean sheet against Everton with their attack so limiting them to one or even two will give them a chance for getting a result out of this match. If they concede early they need to keep the same mentality as they did against Chelsea and fight back.

I am really looking forward to this match as I believe this will be another measuring stick match to really see where this Southampton team is and if they can compete this season for a Europa spot.

How Everton Will Win

Confidence will have to be at a high for the Toffees right now as they are playing fantastic football and really just having fun out there right now. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is just having one of those starts to a season players only dream about and James Rodriguez has been a masterstroke of a move this summer.

They are coming off of a draw with bitter rivals Liverpool and need to make sure they do not overlook the Saints here. If they can keep their focus and play how they have through the first 5 matches they will like their odds in this match.

James Rodriguez is a question mark for this match but he will be a factor whether he is on or off the pitch. But either way, Everton will feel they still have the talent to win this match and will do so if they play the way they have all season.
