Game and possession management is becoming excellent

Saints had a pass success rate of 89% during Sunday’s game and saw out the game brilliantly in the second-half.

The central-midfield pair of James Ward-Prowse and Oriol Romeu gave nothing away once again, Jan Bednarek and Jannik Vestergaard played out with confidence and the full-backs were as influential as ever.

In the past, this was not the case. Things were often forced before and possession was cheaply given away to provide an opportunity for the opposition.

Everton were clearly frustrated by Saints in the second period and this perhaps played a part in Lucas Digne’s red card – only he will know whether he intended to catch Kyle Walker-Peters on the achilles but it was a reckless move nonetheless.

Given that Saints comfortably saw out wins against Burnley and West Brom too, things are looking very promising indeed.
