Southampton bested the league leaders on Sunday with a solid 2-0 victory and a comprehensive team performance that Ralph has to be proud of.

Southampton played a fantastic match on Sunday to ensure they came away victorious and it was thanks to some inspirational play from all 11 guys on the pitch.

Some, however, stood out more than others so let us take a look at the three key players in the Saints victory over the Toffees.

Oriol Romeu

The Spaniard was really all over the pitch on Sunday and made his presence in the midfield known. He was doing it all for the Saints and really showed he’s still got it.

He completed 93% of his passes, had 2 shots, won 2 tackles and did not collect a yellow card! Overall, it was a classic Romeu performance that we saw in the past and he is starting to show he still has tons to offer for this team.

Having a reliable midfielder like Romeu has to let Ralph sleep easier at night knowing he will be there to take care of anything that needs to get done.

James Ward-Prowse

The other half of the midfield duo also deserves a shout here. He scored his first goal of the season with a blistering strike and much like his counterpart he was exceptional defensively as well.

He won 3 tackles and 7 recoveries and just ran his butt off all afternoon. The Englishman also completed 92% of his passes and 3 of those were key passes.

If he plays like this throughout the rest of the season I say watch out to the rest of the league because he will be a pain in the neck to any team they play. I enjoyed his performance and Ralph really has gotten the most out of him.

Next. Three Takeaway Thoughts after Saints’ win. dark

Danny Ings

Who else really. Now instead of scoring, he finds himself setting up his teammates to score. He collected his first two assists of the season on Sunday but his performance was really much more than that.

He dropped deep to collect the ball and really created the attack with his ingenuity and skill on the ball. It amazes me every time he maintains possession when he is swarmed by defenders but he is starting to make it look routine.

He really is a special player and he raises the level of everyone’s game around him when he plays like he did on Sunday.
