Southampton vs Newcastle: An analysis as Saints top the Premier League

Southampton moved to the top of the Premier League table after a comfortable 2-0 win over Newcastle United on Friday evening.

Saints got the perfect start after just seven minutes when Che Adams’ excellent finish put them into the lead.

Some good chances went begging throughout the game without the predatory Danny Ings available but the three points were wrapped up by Stuart Armstrong’s late second.

Given the injuries that they have dealt with this week, it is a very promising sign that Saints were still able to see off Newcastle in such a commanding manner and they will look to return back to this form after the international break.
