A Painful Night for Walcott

With a quarter of an hour left to play Walcott was given a short sharp shock, by a slightly overzealous Jamaal Lascelles.

Armstrong rolled the ball into Theo, who was preparing to shoot. The opposing captain raced across the box to put in a last gasp sliding challenge. The away man may have gotten a tiny touch on the ball, but the tackle crunched into the Saints attacker.

Under the watch of another referee the play could have easily resulted in a penalty, but on this night the on field officials saw nothing wrong and VAR did little to change that assertion.

Fortunately, the Englishman was unscathed and was quick to play down the incident after the match. However, with notable names already on the side-lines, Hasenhüttl Will consider himself lucky the list hasn’t gotten any longer.
