SOUTHAMPTON, ENGLAND – NOVEMBER 29: James Ward-Prowse of Southampton /

Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse, Centre-Midfielder – 8

A very early yellow card in transition changed the way he could marshall the midfield.  Still finished the first half with a goal and assist, of course from set-pieces.  Ran for 95 minutes rarely giving away possession and did his part in a match where his team could have earned 3 points.

Oriol Romeu, Centre-Midfielder – 9

Made sure Bruno Fernandes knew his name before 15 minutes had passed.  Arguably the best player on the pitch in the first half as it felt like there were three of him pressing United midfielders.  Was excellent in possession until his legs grew heavy late.  Romeu’s recovery in transition may have stopped three goals on its own.

Stuart Armstrong – Attacking-Midfielder – 6

Could have done better with his first two opportunities to drive the ball forward.  Just missed Walcott wide open in the penalty area and maybe should have made it 3-0 with a rebound attempt.  Was really good in the press and wriggled out of some sideline trouble with a beautiful skill in a workmanlike performance.

Moussa Djenepo, Attacking-Midfielder – 8

Looked dangerous in 1v1 attacking when heading to the byline.  Turned Fred around badly to earn Ward-Prowse the only look he needed at goal.  Is gaining confidence defensively, making sound well-timed tackles.  Just needs to improve his conditioning to meet the standards of Hasenhuttl.
