A Swift Turn of Events

“I think I’ve seen this film before and I didn’t like the ending” relatable words penned by one Taylor Swift.

We suspect she wasn’t specifically commenting on Southampton’s abysmal record  when holding a lead, but the Saints faithful can certainly appreciate  the sentiment.

Over the years holding a lead has been as reassuring as a Scream movie. Even as the heroes look like they are sure to escape, you can be sure there’s one horrifying twist in store.

A strong start to the campaign would have led many to believe that the weakness of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory had been banished. Sadly, Cavani “had a marvellous time ruining everything”.

Not only did the Uruguayan net a brace but he also provided a crucial assist to help turn the tide.

With half an hour to play Cavani found a way in. The home side had the chance to snuff out the danger just seconds before.

Both Ryan Bertrand and Vestergaard converged on Fred in an attempt to dispossess him. Unfortunately, they failed and the Brazilian was able to pass his way out of trouble.

The ball found its way to the former PSG man who then delivered an excellent cross into Bruno Fernandes. The Portuguese international took the ball with ease and fired past McCarthy.

The goal put Manchester United back in the contest and gave every Saints fan and comfortable déjà vu.
