The Southampton defender is currently on-loan to the Italian side Lazio and has impressed enough the club want to sign him come January.

According to a report from an Italian news site, Hoedt has done nothing but impress his current team, and now they want to sign him permanently this winter and not wait until the summer.

This is good news for Southampton as the club have been trying to get the defender off of their books for two seasons now and it may finally happen.

Hoedt, at one point was a regular starter for the Saints but quickly fell out of favor with Hasenhuttl and has now spent the last season and a half on-loan. The Dutchman felt shorted when he no longer could get into the starting XI and it was best for both him and the club if they just moved on.

It looks like he finally found his home in Italy and still only being 26-years-of-age he has plenty of playing years ahead of him so I am happy he can finally put the Southampton saga behind him and move on.

I am also happy for the club to get him off their books and they can move on as well. The Saints seem to be happy with their current centre-back situation having extended Bednarek, signing Salisu, and not selling Vestergaard this summer.

January will be interesting for Saints as they may become buyers if they want to make a push for Europa and prepare for the potential extra match load next season.

As always we will keep you up-to-date on all of the Saints’ transfer rumours.
