Ings’ lack of sharpness not an issue

Danny Ings scored a penalty against Brighton on his return to action and ended the match against Sheffield United with an assist – but it was far from his sharpest showing in a red and white shirt.

According to the StatsZone app, he had two big chances during the 90 minutes on Sunday but saw them both saved by Aaron Ramsdale. He will have been disappointed not to put them away though and perhaps would have done on another day.

As it was, other players around Ings stepped up once again to ensure that Saints got their just rewards.

Che Adams scored the opener and created four other chances for teammates, whilst Stuart Armstrong netted a second and Nathan Redmond capped a bright cameo off the bench with an excellent third.

Jannik Vestergaard was the star of the show once again with his all-round play from centre-back and, as always these days, no one let Saints down.
