Fans Return

It’s rare when a key moment of the match takes place before kick-off, but the visit of Sheffield United marked a significant moment for St Mary’s.

Supporters have been unable to watch their team since the home defeat to Newcastle all the way back in March. 2000 lucky fans graced the turnstiles for the first time in nine months.

Thankfully, the patients of the faithful were rewarded as the team coasted to victory. The crowd played their part with hearty renditions of Liebherr Wonderland, That’s What It’s like to Be Pompey and of course Oh When the Saints Go Marching In.

It may only be a fraction of the 32,000 stadium capacity, but genuine human atmosphere is leaps ahead of the artificial performance of the broadcaster track.

Let us hope that not only will the positive results continue to flow for those inside the ground but that more can enjoy the beautiful game soon.

Welcome back to football Saints fans.
