The Portuguese defender has been linked with several Premier League clubs including Southampton after an impressive start.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Jorge Fernandes has impressed enough so far this season that multiple clubs want to sign him in January.

The reason the player has interested a number of club is that he will likely only cost around £16m which is affordable for many clubs. He is 23-years-old, stands at 6ft 4in, and has only conceded two goals this season.

His current club signed him for under £1m and could cash-in big on the player this January. It is however interesting that Southampton are potentially in the market for another Centre-back after purchasing Mohammed Salisu in the summer and the recent form of Jannik Vestergaard.

This tells me the club may be worried about a bigger club coming in this January and trying to convince Vestergaard to leave.

He has been in impeccable form and his price has risen over the past few months. If this is true, the club could cash in big on Vestergaard and easily afford Fernandes if need be.

I hope the team could fight off any attempt to sign the towering Centre-back but you never know. If the right club comes knocking on the door he could force a move out in January.

With the way, Southampton have started the season it is likely going to lead to a very interesting January. Now they may think they can make a move to fight for a Europa league spot and could look to bring in a few players. The flip side of that is they have played so well other clubs will have noticed and may try and buy some of the players that fit their needs.
