Goalkeeper and Defenders

Alex McCarthy

Reliable and has six league clean sheets so far. Under no pressure from the goalkeepers behind him in the pecking order, although he may get a rest in the FA Cup Third-Round.

Kyle Walker-Peters

Consistently a key part of Saints’ build-up to attack and very rarely caught out defensively either. What a signing.

Jan Bednarek

Continuing to go about his work well. His strengths are defence whilst his partner – Stephens or Vestergaard – does most of the ball-playing.

Jack Stephens

Did not look out of place at Fulham and will continue to play whilst Vestergaard is out.

Ryan Bertrand

Showing superb fitness despite being 31 and will surely keep his place for the visit of the Hammers.
