Strikers and Substitutes

Che Adams, Striker – 4

Offsides twice in the first 6 minutes and it cost the Saints at least Ings’ goal.  Had room to turn on a few occasions and opted for one touch backwards instead, losing possession and killing attacks.  Took a full boot to the head from Craig Dawson on a set piece, clearly ringing his bell, and missed Theo on an easy slip pass seconds later.  Nothing came off tonight and he probably needed some rest.  He has been so good this season and logged heavy minutes so he deserves a pass, but we have to be fair and rate him on today not the season.

Danny Ings, Striker – 6

Finished brilliantly while we were all collectively waiting for offsides to be confirmed.  Slightly overhit a couple early passes which are expected with inconsistent time on the pitch.  Cannot understand why he was pushed for 90 minutes, but that appears to be Ralph’s way.  We need prime Danny back.

Shane Long, Substitute Striker – 5

Came on before the hour with Che Adams ineffective for too long.  Got involved right away from a Stephens’ long ball, but then stood in the way of Djenepo’s creativity.  One good counter eventually snuffed out by West Ham was his only other contribution.

Stuart Armstrong, Substitute Attacking-Midfielder – N/A

A little over 15 minutes with extra time to make an impact on the left side.
