Southampton see off a lacklustre Liverpool to take all three points at St Mary’s.

A sublime Danny Ings goal proved the difference in a game of few chances.

The result sees Saints move into the top six and only out of the champions league places on goal difference. Ralph Hasenhüttl was clearly overcome with emotion after seeing his side fight hard to keep the champions at bay.

SFC kept the Reds to just one shot on target for the entire game. The home side put in last second blocks and scrapped to ensure that a returning Fraser Forster had only the bare minimum to do.

The Hampshire side took the lead within two minutes of kick-off, but spurned chances through the likes of  Nathan Tella and Moussa Djenepo . As expected the Merseysiders dominated for long spells of the game as they looked in vain for a way through.

Here are the three key moments that impacted the course of Southampton 1 Liverpool 0.
