Strikers and Substitutes

Theo Walcott, Striker – 8

Theo’s experience is clearly evident in a Southampton side which demands it.  Narrowly missed two passes which could have put teammates in, but combined with Che Adams routinely to breakdown the Leicester defence.  Was less involved in the second half, but put in a workmanlike shift defensively against a very good side.

Che Adams, Striker – 6

Sent running a couple times shaking any worry about lingering concussion symptoms.  Looked in-sync with Walcott and brought his attacking midfielders into play well.  Only one chance on goal though when he needs to be the goal-scoring threat.

Dan N’Lundulu, Substitute Striker – 5

One bursting run when he held the ball forever was the highlight of his match.  He took himself out of position for a couple crosses and looks better with the ball at his feet than played to him in the air.  N’Lundulu is breaking into the squad and will likely feature midweek, but one must question how many chances on goal he has created albeit his limited opportunities.

Shane Long, Substitute Striker – 4

Given 20 minutes to make an impact and other than winning a couple balls in the air and a foul, he did not help break down the Leicester defence.  Many fans are calling for a different option, but I am not sure there are any, so Long needs to step up and provide the pressure Hasenhuttl requires.

Yan Valery, Substitute Attacking-Midfielder – N/A

Came in for about 10 minutes with extra time and slotted in front of Walker-Peters.  Tried to create 1v1, but it was a lot to ask with Leicester sitting deep and looking to counter.
