Southampton have been attempting to sign Ings to a new contract and it may come down to what the release clause is for the player.

According to a new report from the Athletic, it is not the wages of the new contract that the two sides are not in agreement on but rather the release clause. The current offer would see the striker become the highest-paid Saint in the history of the club.

Danny Ings, really is not against signing a new contract with Southampton but he would like the door to be slightly open for a chance to go to a Champions League caliber team.

And who can really blame him? He is playing at the top of his game right now and wants to play against the best. He is 28-years-of-age and does not have too many years of his prime left.

With that said, he does not necessarily want to leave Southampton. He is happy here and sees that they are building towards something and is loved by the supporters.

Southampton, according to the report, are not against having a release clause in the contract. The club just wants to make sure they are getting a fair price for the playing.

Next. Saints have plenty in their favour in Ings contract situation. dark

Which is smart for the Saints. If Ings leaves, that will leave a hole up top, and a lot of goals are out the window. With the money, they will potentially receive for Danny they could sign a high-quality replacement who could fill the void.

It will be an interesting saga that every fan will have their eyes on and only time will tell what will happen. We can only hope we get to see Danny Ings in the red and white for the foreseeable future.
