Southampton: Statistical look at Saints’ worrying loss to Newcastle

Southampton recorded another Premier League loss when they fell to a worrying 3-2 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday.

Saints conceded three times in a bad first-half for them and only had Takumi Minamino’s strike to show for their own below-par efforts

James Ward-Prowse’s superb free-kick and Jeff Hendrick’s red card for Newcastle shortly into the second-half gave some hope of a positive result, but Ralph Hasenhuttl and his side would deservedly come away from the North East with nothing.

There is still plenty of time for Saints to put things right again in this campaign but a concerning slump in the last three months has taken the gloss off of what looked to be a positive season.
