Southampton took on the Wolves Thursday night in the FA Cup and they turned in one of their better performances over the past few months.

Thanks to two second-half goals, Southampton will now take on familiar foes Bournemouth in the Quarterfinals of the competition.

There were many positives in this match and let us take a moment to look at three of the biggest takeaways from this match.

Bounce Back Match for the Attack

The Saints looked fantastic in attack today. Creating a number of chances and really looking sharp in attack.

In total, they had 18 shots with 8 of them finding the target. Stuart Armstrong himself had more shots than Wolverhampton did the whole match. It was really refreshing to watch honestly and hopefully, it can translate over into league play.

The attack was quick and had a sense of purpose. If they had done this against Newcastle they likely would have won the match. Nathan Redmond and Danny Ings made some fantastic runs behind the defense and were real terrors all day.

Goalkeeper controversy?

Fraser Forster was fantastic today the few times he was called into action. His best moment was a save with his feet from a shot by Adama Traore that was destined for the back of the net.

It really is awesome to see him back in net and getting clean sheets. Although he has been great, I do not think he will take over the starting keeper position over McCarthy, yet.

McCarthy, has had some mistakes recently but I do not think its the appropriate time to make the switch. Forster is looking more comfortable playing out of the back but he is not at the level Ralph wants just yet.

We could see the change at some point though.

Salisu is here and he is rusty

Mohammed Salisu finally made his Southampton debut and did not disappoint. It was his first competitive match in around 255 days and it showed.

Despite a few mistakes he showed he is a heck of a player and he is going to make an impact on this team. He is not only strong but quick and has a fantastic left foot.

He won 4 aerials and had 8 clearances during the match and looked more and more comfortable as the match went on. I am really looking forward to seeing him play more and when he knocks off the rust he is going to dominate.
