Manager, Goalkeeper and Defenders

Ralph Hasenhuttl, Manager – 8

It was clear that some good work had been put in during training this week. The players he brought into the starting line-up repaid faith and gave the team a solid structure once again, whilst the attacking movement was much improved.

Fraser Forster, Goalkeeper – 8

A confident performance. Twice he came sprinting from his line to take charge of balls played in behind the defence and then also made a crucial save to deny Traore late on.

Kyle Walker-Peters, Right-Back – 7

Not hugely involved in comparison to Bertrand but his inclusion gave the Saints line-up a much better look and players playing in their natural positions.

Jan Bednarek, Centre-Back – 7

Recovered well from his performance against Newcastle to lead the backline well and maintain a clean sheet

Mohammed Salisu, Centre-Back – 7

Two shaky moments, but look beyond those and he put in a solid display considering this was his debut. Multiple clearances and blocks that show he reads the game well.

Ryan Bertrand, Left-Back – 9

A very lively performance. Positive when looking to attack and drive with the ball, but also determined in defence – especially when up against Traore late on.

Also played the defence-splitting pass that set up Ings’ opening goal.
