Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse, Central-Midfield – 7

Created one or two openings from quick use of the ball. The improvement in his speed of thought on the pitch has been a vital part in his all-round improvement as a player under Hasenhuttl.

Oriol Romeu, Central-Midfield – 6

Not involved in many period of play that stood out but he needs to be playing in this team. One cynical tackle to stop a Wolves break from returning anything in the latter stages. Typical Oriol.

Stuart Armstrong, Attacking-Midfield – 9

Fantastic display. Created multiple openings from the central space he likes to operate in and scored the second with a composed finish right at the end.

The Scotland international was a key creative force in Saints’ form earlier this season and they could regain that if he keeps playing this way.

Moussa Djenepo, Attacking-Midfield – 6

Not his most active day in terms of attacking moments, but he linked well with Bertrand late on to deny Traore the space he thrives on.
