Southampton vs. Wolves: Premier League – Player Ratings

Midfielders
James Ward-Prowse, Centre-Midfielder – 8
His possession under pressure was absolutely tidy. Excellent at ball recovery when running back at his own goal. JWP’s desire to win the ball back 20 yards from his own goal in stoppage time epitomizes his determination, but apparently it does not run through this squad.
Oriol Romeu, Centre-Midfielder – 6
Excellent early on in both possession and pressing, then earned himself a yellow 17 minutes in. Romeu’s legs did not look as fresh, but healthy centre-mids are a commodity. Was forced to dive out of tackles because of his caution for the remainder of the match. Quickness and pace offered by Diallo were missing today and certainly would have made a difference late on. If Hasenhuttl had an extra sub, Romeu likely would have been a casualty as his passing in the final 20 minutes did not support a comeback.
Stuart Armstrong, Attacking-Midfielder – 8
A few bursts early on and each of them posed transitional problems for Wolves. Was the creator in the assist to Ings, as he perfectly picked out Ings with his left foot. Had two little giveaways near the halfway line, but neither hurt his team. Continues to be an integral part of any Saints success.
Takumi Minamino, Attacking-Midfielder – 5
Eager from the start, seeking out Redmond as an attacking partner. Drifted out of the match for most of the first half however. Taken off at the hour as he had zero touches of note in the second half. Doesn’t quite look apart of the squad yet, which is entirely understandable.
