Southampton vs Chelsea: Can Saints snap the losing streak?
Southampton welcome the Blues to St. Mary’s on Saturday as they look to change their current course and pick up a result against a tough team.
Southampton are currently floundering and need a result to turn the season around against a Chelsea team who are playing well under their new manager.
Chelsea will look to keep the momentum going and look to maintain their spot in the top four.
Let us take a look how both teams can win.
How Southampton Will Win
The Saints need a result. It is really as simple as that and they have a tough task if they hope to do so.
They are playing a Chelsea team high on confidence but they cannot shy away from the challenge and change how they approach the match. They will need to press Chelsea and make them uncomfortable on the ball.
If they can force mistakes and turnovers they can open up Chelsea on the counter and get plenty of chances to put the ball in the back of the net. If they get scared and sit back it is going to be a long match for Southampton.
They will also need someone else than Ings to step up and put shots on target. I think the team is in trouble relying on just Ings to score and need to find another source. If someone other than Ings can find the back of the net on Saturday they could stand a chance.
How Chelsea Will Win
Chelsea will look to dominate possession and keep Southampton pinned back as they send balls into the box. If they can break the press and switch the field of play quickly on the Saints they can really open up the match and get a lot of opportunities on net.
Their defense has been stout under Tuchel and have only conceded just one goal in the league under the German.
This Chelsea team will be confident against a team that is struggling and that will only add to their play.
