Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse, Centre-Midfielder – 8

Typical scrappy Prowsey throughout the match.  Didn’t get his usual set piece chances, but nearly found Vestergaard for the match winner on a corner.  One of those games where his positioning alone was a huge factor in the draw and could easily go amiss.

Oriol Romeu, Centre-Midfielder – 6

Outmanned in the midfield Romeu turned to hoofing it forward rather than maintaining possession.  Really struggled to connect with anyone today and his typical calmness could have settled the team in moments of stress.  Could speculate he is not fully fit and fighting through injury as he always does.

Takumi Minamino, Attacking-Midfielder – 6

Floated underneath Redmond and Ings in an Armstrong-like role.  Couldn’t quite get connected with Ings which killed a few attacks.  His finish is all Southampton fans will remember, so calm, so poised, and after a well-timed run.  If he is scoring goals, no one is complaining, but we need to see more in relieving pressure by linking up with teammates and maintaining possession.
