The Bar Holds Back Saints

Southampton had very few chances to speak of, but they still had an opportunity to steal all three points from under the traveller’s nose.

With the game entering the final 20 minutes, Saints receive a rare corner. Chelsea deal with James Ward Prowse’s initial ball in, but Nathan Redmond gets a second bite of the cherry.

The former Norwich man delivers a tempting cross, which Jannik Vestergaard is only too happy to meet. The Dane gets a strong connection on the ball which rattles the bar and falls back into the box.

Ings, follows up but can only lash it wide.

It would be tricky for even the most ardent Saints fan to claim that their side deserved the win, but then again recent weeks have more than proven football doesn’t always give you what you deserve.
