The Southampton goalkeeper has reinvented himself under Ralph Hasenhuttl and now the club are looking to have him sign a new deal.

According to a new report from The Athletic, the club and the player are in the beginning stages of talks for a new contract.

There have been rumbling from fans to give Forster a chance to start a Premier League match but Ralph has backed McCarthy time and time again. He has made it clear he likes McCarthy and he is going to continue starting for Southampton.

The club have opened up contract talks with a number of players now which includes Danny Ings and Ryan Bertrand but have yet to reach a deal with either player.

I think this summer is going to be an interesting one for Southampton. There are a lot of decisions to be made and it is clear that Southampton need to add players to their squad or they are going to struggle next season with depth like they have this season.

The first step in that is retaining the players they have on the team right now and getting the Ings, Bertrand, and now McCarthy to sign new contracts.

If Southampton can get those three players locked up I like where they are moving and then they can move forward and look to bring a number of players in over the summer.

With only 14 matches left, the focus should be on securing safety for next season so I hope the players are focused and ready to close out the season on a strong note.
