Southampton: Angus Gunn has loan deal extended until next season
Southampton goalkeeper, Angus Gunn, has had his loan deal with Championship Stoke City extended until the end of the next season.
The out-of-favour keeper has been spending his time with Stoke City and now will spend next season there as well. According to this report, Gunn is competing for the number 1 spot at Stoke and will now be there for another season.
It should be noted that Southampton can recall him in the summer if need be so that will be something to keep an eye on but I do not see either McCarthy or Forster leaving so he will likely stay.
Angus Gunn at one point seemed to be the future of the club in net but ever since that night against Leicester it has really all gone downhill for the player and you have to feel for him. I was hoping he would get another chance but now staying another year may mean his time with Southampton may not last much longer.
I think Alex McCarthy may be the keeper for Saints over the next few years but it would not hurt to start looking for a younger guy who could develop behind him. That could still very well be the plan for Gunn but until Forster is gone there is no reason for him to be third choice.
I think we all wish Gunn the best at Stoke City and hopefully he can maintain that number one spot and maybe even help them gain promotion back into the Premier League.
