Sheffield United vs. Southampton: Premier League – Player Ratings

Midfielders
Ibrahima Diallo, Centre-Midfielder – 5
It took him 30 minutes to get a foothold. Possession specifically could not have been what the manager wanted and he nearly gifted Sheffield an equaliser before the half. Broke up some of the Sheffield attack, but had some clear rust to shake off. Opted to go to his buddy Moussa instead of setting up a wide open Adams which should have made it 3-0. Let’s just hope this was a match to get back up to speed.
James Ward-Prowse, Centre-Midfielder – 9
It’s hard to imagine how this team would survive without him. It was typical Prowsey, cleaning up second balls and the mistakes of his teammates. Dispatched his penalty amidst a shadow of psychological pressure with no problem at all. He does so many little things that go unnoticed, not to mention lead this team by example. If we had 10 of him and a keeper, we would win the league.
Takumi Minamino, Attacking-Midfielder – 7
Was a driving force in the Southampton attack on the left side. His teammates disconnected from him too often though, and you could see him waving on for help on more than one move. The isolation has not proved his strength and the strikers needs to look to play more closely with him. Didn’t do much wrong other than miss a sitter. Almost made it 90 minutes after injury which is an encouraging boost.
Stuart Armstrong, Attacking-Midfielder – 9
Moved from his six back to the seven and led the Southampton counter. Played a couple beautiful diaganols to Tella on the run and was disruptive defensively in recovery. Cushioned the ball down to Che Adams’ for the assist to his glorious strike. Truly an orchestrator throughout the second half and deserved a goal, or at least one set up by Redmond or Adams. The amount of running he did today you would expect him to be at risk for Wednesday
