Strikers and Substitutes

Danny Ings, Striker – N/A

10 minutes of football, limping off with a non-contact, and the contract questions take another twist.  Nothing has changed.

Nathan Tella, Striker – 8

What a nuisance in the first half.  Drew four fouls, forced two yellow cards, earned a penalty and even had a corner and set piece drawn up for him.  He is miles ahead of Redmond at the moment and brought life to the Southampton side while running in behind the Sheffield back line.  Maybe ran out of gas in the second half, but nearly slipped a ball within the post with his left foot.  As long as he is healthy, he proved he has to start simply because he affected the match.

Che Adams, Substitute Striker – 7

Appears to have lost and regained his place in the starting eleven in quick fashion.  Albeit via another Saints’ injury.  Confidence is down and most evident in a missed chance 1 on 1 with the keeper.  It is hard to describe the moment, but he literally looked up, saw he was alone, and froze within a split second.  Injected a vaccine of confidence into his veins with a half volley for the ages.  Should have scored or setup a second, but just seeing the ball smash the back of the net was worth an appearance today.

Nathan Redmond, Substitute Striker – N/A

Had countless opportunities in 15 minutes to seal the victory and each and every time you can seek the discomfort build as he inches toward goal.  His sport psychologist has to be lost at this point.  What a talent without the belief in himself to match it.

Moussa Djenepo, Substitute Striker – N/A

A welcome cameo after surviving the abuse he suffered against Everton.  Likely to feature against City on Wednesday.
