Southampton have played a number of games since the last power rankings came out and it has not been the best run of form.

They finally managed a nice victory over the weekend against Sheffield United and look to be playing better football at the moment. Players have returned from injury and they are starting to play with more confidence.

So it is as good as time as any to come back and rank the top 5 best Saints at the moment.

Number 5

Fraser Forster

Forster has stepped back into the Premier League starting XI and has conceded 1 goal in his first two matches back and looks to be the starter going forward. I do not think many Saint fans thought they would see this again when he went on-loan to Celtic but here he is and he is proving himself.

He is a commanding presence in the net and is learning how to play out the back and starting to look more comfortable by the match. He kept a clean sheet against Sheffield and made a couple of saves to ensure the club did not concede.

He has a tough task ahead of him on Wednesday against City but I think he will use this as a chance to prove to everyone he is back.

Number 4

Nathan Tella

The youngster was absolutely stunning in the match against Sheffield and I think has everyone excited about his future. He looks to be a threat every time he gets on the ball and is just a problem for defenders.

I suspect he will be featured much more frequently the rest of the season and will get a lot of time to shine. Next season may be one to look forward to with Tella being a regular starter for the entirety of the season.

Number 3

Jannik Vestergaard

The Dane has returned from injury and has returned to his spot in the top 5 and showed how important he has been to the club this season.

He has been one of the most consistent players this season and generally just looks more confident match after match. I shudder to think where the team would be without him this season as he has really stepped up his game and just looks a different player than in the past.

Number 2

James Ward-Prowse

James Ward-Prowse has been instrumental to this team all season long and just by playing the sheer number of minutes he does it would be impossible not to include him in this list.

He does it all for this team and is just one of those players you are thankful is on your team and not the team you are playing. It has been so much fun watching him this season even with the recent form the team has been because you never know when he will produce a bit of magic from a set-piece.

Number 1

Stuart Armstrong

Stu has been playing tremendously lately and has been one of the focal points in creating chances. He just seems to get better and better every match and his ability to beat defenders when he is on the ball is the reason why he creates so many chances.

In the last match, he could have had two goals if Adams and Redmond had squared it to him but that is neither here nor there.

If Stu can manage to stay healthy the rest of the season I think he will have plenty of chances to add to that goal tally of his.
