Midfielders

James Ward-Prowse, Centre-Midfielder – 6

Forced to play through a tight Brighton press while luring opposition forward with typical Prowsey success.  Looked tired at times, but gutted out 90 as usual, and nearly stretched a diaganol back to N’Lundulu in extra time.  He is doing everything he can for a team around him that has little clue what to do.

Ibrahima Diallo, Centre-Midfielder – 8

If you overslept you missed his first touch under pressure which screamed confidence.  Diallo followed it with a bit of skill preserving the initial attack.  Surprised Brighton’s press multiple times with individual ability to turn, although it was always risky.  If not for his creativity in those situations, Southampton may have never passed the midway line in possession.

Stuart Armstrong, Attacking-Midfielder – 6

When the ball fell to him in the 7th minute he probably should have scored.  So important in driving the team forward with the ball, evident of a 20th minute burst.  The team was begging him to make something happen, and if that is going to be our tactic the rest of the way, we are in trouble.

Takumi Minamino, Attacking-Midfielder – 5

Took a bit to get into the match, per usual, but he was missed on a counter attempt which would have seen him 1v1.  A few shots were opened up for him before the half our mark, but he never truly tested the keeper.  Subbed at 65 for Redmond without leaving the impact his team needed.  Just feels like a disconnected floater in the side.
