Strikers and Substitutes

Che Adams, Striker – 7

A couple nice bits of hold up mixed in with indecisive lay offs highlighted his first half.  He was involved as a runner, but didn’t sync up with his suppliers on a couple of prime opportunities.  The finish on the VAR goal was 100% confidence driven and an excellent sign for weeks ahead.  Offered a couple additional moments to create something, but a poor touch put him off.  Still, no one will be complaining about this performance.

Nathan Redmond, Striker – 8

Did pretty much everything wrong in the first 30 minutes despite looking positive running at goal.  A poor back pass, an ill-timed slip, a head-scratching heel on a short corner routine, an host of indecisive dribbles toward goal was not the start he needed.  Dropped in central as a number 10 often and spurred the first goal from this position.  Drove the ball 40 yards before slipping in in Djenepo, even though he only looked like he was going to pass.  Given another 1v1 opportunity with Steve Cook before the break and used his quickness to create space for an excellent finish.

Stepping on the ball in the box ahead of the third goal may be a pessimistic look, but he did setup Armstrong really well for the strike.  The finish for the brace was yet another example of the quality of this player when his mind doesn’t get in the way.  A reactive pass to the far post was all it needed.  If you look at his positioning prior to the strike, Redmond never expects the ball to return to his feet and that is why the finish was so quality.  Nearly added a third in what was his most memorable match since 2019.

Mohammed Salisu, Substitute Centre-Back – N/A

Entered as a part of an odd double centre-back switch.  Many would have liked to see him start, but it is just nice to see him at all.  Took a massive hit from Surridge

Jack Stephens, Substitute Centre-Back – N/A

First involvement as a centre-back for some time and as a rare double sub.

Nathan Tella, Substitute Attacking-Midfielder – N/A

A late addition in place of Moussa Djenepo, and one has to wonder why it took so long?

Dan N’Lundulu, Substitute Striker – N/A

A little cameo for the big striker.

Kayne Ramsay, Substitute Right-Back – N/A

Signed an extension, but barely got 5 minutes plus the three extended minutes of the match.
