Southampton had a decisive victory over the Cherries on Saturday and now find themselves in the FA Cup semi-final and will take on Leicester.
Southampton not only kept a clean sheet but they also managed to net 3 times for the first time in a match in what feels like forever. It was a confidence booster for sure and when the international break is over hopefully they can carry the confidence for the rest of the season.
Let us take a look at some of the things we can takeaway from this match.
They are capable of scoring
One of the biggest points of frustration this season has been the lack of scoring but on Saturday they showed they can score! They found the back of the net 5 times but only 3 ended up standing.
Hopefully seeing the ball go into the net more than once in a match will give them that mindset that they need to score multiple goals in league matches or even the semi-final against Leciester.
On top of the 3 goals they also did it without Danny Ings and that has to be a good feeling for a team that can be a little too dependent on the striker’s play.
Have yourself a day Nathan Redmond
Redmond had one of his best days in a Saint’s shirt on Saturday and maybe this propels him to a run of form that could help the Saints stay well clear of the drop zone.
It seems like Redmond has always been on the brink of putting it all together but then takes a step back much to the frustration of himself and the fans.
Now that he knows he can score and impact a match maybe he becomes the player we all hoped he would be and can be a game-changer for Southampton.
Europe still possible
A season that started with so much promise quickly burned out and left a lot of supporters scratching their heads asking what happened to the team that once topped the table.
Well, they will not make it to Europe by finishing high on the table but the window is still open for them to win the FA Cup and make the Europa League. What a way to end the season that would be?
It would make the dip in form a bit easier to swallow and something to add to the trophy cabinet.
