In the press conference ahead of the fixture, manager Ralph Hasenhüttl appeared to question whether the number nine was necessarily worthy of a move to Manchester City. With the imminent departure of Sergio Aguero on the horizon, the Citizens are on the hunt for a replacement.

After scoring 22 goals last season the English international has been linked with a potential move to the runaway leaders.

“Ingsy, he had a fantastic season last season and since then he had a few injury problems and didn’t score that much, but he is still a very good striker. If he’s good enough to be an option for them, I don’t know.”,Hasenhüttl said. (Daily Echo)

If those words were meant as a challenge to the striker it is one he happily accepted. Danny played a part in all three goals. The marksman provided a cutting pass to help Stuart Armstrong put his side on the board, while his powerful shot early in the move helped to bring about the winner.

Despite ably playing the sidekick role throughout the contest Ings was not to be denied his place on the score sheet. Dyche will be irritated that his side didn’t take the opportunity to shut the move down in its infancy.

Fraser Forster is initially made to hurry a pass out to Kyle Walker Peters, who plays the ball down the line to Nathan Redmond. Redmond quickly turns his man and pushes a hopeful ball towards Ings

Mee has a head start, but does nowhere near enough to secured the ball and allows it to run. Never one to miss an opportunity the goal-scorer powers past the number six and runs into the space.

James Tarkowski  comes across in an effort to make the challenge, but only succeeds in performing a very poor version of the splits before falling to the ground. To quote the words of NBA analyst Reggie Miller “click click, welcome to your Kodak moment” Mr Tarkowski.

After thoroughly embarrassing the defender Ings  turns to face Pope and gently roles it past the shot-stopper.

The classy finish brings up the Winchester boy’s ninth goal of the league campaign.

Let us hope Pep Guardiola wasn’t watching this latest strike too closely.
