Southampton may have to make a move for Souleyman Doumbia if they need to replace Ryan Bertrand if he leaves this summer.

According to a new report from football insider, Southampton are looking to make a move for Angers’ left-back Souleyman Doumbia.

The 24-year-old is having a good season for his current club and would only cost around £3M to bring in on a permanent deal this summer.

Two other French clubs are also interested in the player and those clubs would be Lyon and Nice.

Ryan Bertrand’s contract is up this summer and if the club do not resign him they will be out a left-back who is capable of playing at the Premier League level. I think the priority would be to resign Bertrand as he has been a loyal servant of the club and has shown he is still at the top of his game.

This will be one of the more important transfer windows for Southampton in recent years as they need to take the next step under Ralph Hasenhuttl or there will be questions that will have to be asked.

I think we could see around 4-5 players purchased. Nothing too expensive but a number of young players for a cheap price that we could develop into long-time players.

They will have to resign Bertrand in my opinion but we will have to see. Only time will tell and we have to trust the board to back Ralph. If they do not we will likely be out a manager at some point next season.
