10-man Southampton beat the odds to secure an important point against Leicester City.

James Ward Prowse gave his side a brief second half lead from the spot, before a Jonny Evans’ header rescued a point.

Saints suffered an early setback as Jannick Vestergaard was controversially shown a red card as the last man. The Dane was adjudged to have fouled Jamie Vardy despite appearing to get the ball ahead of the striker.

The home side now move to 37 points and 10 away from the drop zone. With five games to go, Southampton look to have done enough to secure their future in the Premier League.

The Foxes meanwhile, continue their quest for Champions League football next season. At the time of writing, the visitors sit eight points clear of West Ham in fifth.

Despite, being disadvantaged for 80 minutes, SFC defended well and minimize the pressure on Alex McCarthy’s goal. The shot stopper nevertheless made the difference.

The opponents inevitably had most of the ball, but this didn’t stop Saints from causing a problem or two along the way.
