Ryan Bertrand’s contract is going to end this summer and he and the club have been in negotiations for what has been months now.

Alex Crook went on a podcast to discuss the future for the defender and what he believes will happen this summer. You can listen to the podcast here and read a few of the quotes here.

Crook believe that Ryan Bertrand will in fact leave this summer as the two sides have been close to a deal but cannot seem to agree on the length of the deal. According to him, Bertrand wants a 3-year deal while the club are only willing to give him 2-years.

It is tough to imagine the club would like Bertrand walk over just a year and you would hope they are able to figure something out even if they do sell him so they can at least make some sort of money.

If he walks for free that will be a blow to the club and they will look poor on the other side of it. They will have let one of their proven players walk for free and do not have a real replacement for him if he does leave.

I think at the end of the day a deal gets done but Crook seems confident that it will not and Bertrand will not be on the team next season. He believes that Brandon Williams could come in as a replacement. But, if they do not have the funds to sign him, then it would only be a loan deal for Williams and a temporary solution at best.

Only time will tell and we will keep you all updated as this progresses.
