Southampton claimed their second 3-1 win in a week as their controlled performance overcame Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday.

Che Adams opened the scoring in the first-half, but this match will be memorable for Nathan Tella’s first goal for Saints after his introduction as a substitute.

The youngster made a brilliant impact after coming on and proved that he is very much one for the future after scoring and then setting up Theo Walcott’s late third.

There is clearly a link between the young man and his much older teammate. Both of them were at Arsenal and now find themselves at St Mary’s – Tella still very much learning from someone with huge experience in his position.

Given the troubles they have had at stages of this season, Saints now sit on a respectable 43 points and look set to finish between 12th and 14th. Not a success when early season form is taken into account but there are, of course, many reasons for this and perhaps next season will be the one for them to really kick on under Ralph Hasenhuttl’s leadership.
