It is going to be a busy summer for Southampton as a number of players will go and hopefully, decent ones will be brought in.

What will determine the quantity and quality of the players that are purchased this summer will heavily rely on the money that is brought in from selling current players.

This is according to a new report from the Athletic, and obviously, the main goal is a new left-back but they have a number of other targets as well. One piece that seems to be up in the air still is if Danny Ings will still be on the team when the next season starts.

If he stays, great we have a proven goal-scorer who is one of the best in the league and will help us finish higher than the previous season. If he leaves, well hopefully the Saints will get a decent splash of cash for him and can purchase players to replace him and others.

It would seem his current valuation is around £25-£30m and that is a decent bit of cash. Especially for a club of Southampton’s size.

So if the striker were to leave and the club were able to get the money they want for him I would suspect they go after a proven name as a replacement and do not just take a chance on an unproven youngster.

Additionally, they would be able to fund other moves with that type of money and would be able to round out the squad and add the kind of depth they would like to heading into the season.

We will continue to watch all transfer rumours and keep you all updated as we get more information.
