Southampton are set for a busy summer as they look to move unwanted players on and add significant quality to their own first-team squad.

Plenty of links have been made suggesting outgoings and incomings, but the club are yet to spend their first money of the transfer window.

Theo Walcott has signed permanently on a two-year deal after leaving Everton on a free transfer and 11 players, including Ryan Bertrand, will be released officially at the end of the month, but fans will be waiting to hear of the first unexpected moves.

It will be a tough summer for the club and a huge amount of work will be going on behind the scenes to try and get deals that suit the club. Fees of around £10m are realistic and represent room for potential sell-on value in the future – an important provision of finance if Saints are to keep competing at Premier League level.

Players that are bought will also have to fit into Ralph Hasenhuttl’s own pressing style. This will be attractive to some young players who want to be making an impression in games but may also be require them to adapt their own styles of play.
