Thomas Strakosha

According to La Repubblica – via Sports Witness – Saints and Crystal Palace want to sign Strakosha after sensing an opportunity with his ongoing contract situation

His current deal with Serie A outfit Lazio runs until next summer and he will be able to negotiate with other teams if he does not choose to sign a new deal in Rome.

Other reports from the end of May suggest that negotiations between player and club have opened again, so it remains to be seen which path he will choose for his career from here.

At 26, Strakosha is regarded as a talented goalkeeper and he has kept 51 clean sheets in 177 games for Lazio so far. However, his contract situation did see him lose his first-choice place to veteran Pepe Reina in 2020/21.

Saints have two goalkeepers who are over the age of 30 and, although this is normally the peak of a player’s career between the sticks, maybe Strakosha is seen as potential replacement for Alex McCarthy or Fraser Forster.

With Lazio’s offer not deemed acceptable by the player, this could be an agent stirring rumours too. Saints are more likely to bring in a younger player than the Albanian international.
