Southampton want to bring in another left-back this season and are getting closer to bringing in Manchester United’s Brandon Williams on loan.

According to a report from the athletic, the club feel confident that they will get a deal on for Williams soon. It would be a season-long loan with likely no option or obligation to buy at the end. The Saints would also be expected to cover the 20-year-old’s wages in full.

This is not the first time that the club have tried to bring in the defender. Each of the past two windows they have been linked with the player and failed to get a deal done.

I believe this would be a fine piece of business for Southampton. It will provide coverage in a position that lacks depth and gives a youngster a chance to prove himself and develop.

His wages are quite high for a club like Southampton to cover just for a season. He makes a reported £60,000-a-week and Manchester United want Southampton to cover all of it.

That would be the only point that would make me hesitant to say yes to this deal but if the club believe they are able to afford the wages and continue to purchase new players this window I say go for it.

With the news surrounding Danny Ings, the club could have some extra money to use soon and they could put it to good use by signing a number of players this summer who are already established and can have an impact on the pitch.
