Southampton are on the prowl for new players and are linked again with Danish star Joakim Maehle who has played well during the Euros.

Back in 2019 it is reported the club had made a bid for the player who was on KRC Genk. It is reported the bid was around €11.5m and it was rejected by the club and then sold for that price to Atalanta back in Janaury.

Now, after a strong showing in the Euros, the player’s price has risen by nearly triple and the Saints have been told they will need to bid around €28m for the player.

It is disappointing to hear that Southampton’s original bid was rejected and then the player was sold for less money not long after. Maehle is now likely out of their price range and the club will not be able to afford him.

Maehle is capable of playing right-back and would be a significant addition to the squad. Unfortunately, he is out of price range and that is likely why the club are pursuing Brandon Williams.

It will be interesting to see how Southampton’s transfer business will be conducted if they sell Ings and Vestergaard. If those two players are sold then the club would have more money to potentially purchase players like Maehle.

It may be smart, if the price is right, to let Ings and Vestergaard go to allow the team to be able to afford new players that will be able to help the team in other areas.

It is going to be an interesting month of July for the club as they still have a good bit of business to do and they will want to get it done as quickly as possible.
